Roscommon Sports Partnership hosted an Active Age Blitz day on the 19th of April in Kilbride Community Centre. The enthusiastic groups that were represented on the day were Strokestown Silver Streaks, Knockcroghery, Loughglynn, Dysart Rural Men’s Group, Boyle Willow Grove, Roscommon Town, Four Roads, Ballinlough/Granlahan Active Retirement Associations. The day proved to be a great success with up on forty participants taking part from the different clubs in county Roscommon. The participants were divided up into six different teams with some clubs combining. During the morning each team played off against each other in the games of Flisks and Scidils and the new game Corn hole which was very well received on the day.
The day proved to be thoroughly enjoyable with lots of laughter and the odd shout of annoyance when a score was missed. The competitive streaks were visible from early on with some practicing at every available opportunity. The teams were close coming into the last round but Dysart managed to pip Knockcroghery to the post and came out the winners by just 3 points. There was very little between the teams.
Congratulations to our winners Dysart Rural Men’s group but most of all thank you to all the participants for making the day so enjoyable. It was a relaxed atmosphere with the main focus on participation. The National Go For Life games will be held on the 9th of June, so keep practicing!
Finally, we would like to thank Kilbride Community Centre for the use of their excellent facilities. The main hall was ideal allowing us to run all the games side by side. The facilities were perfect for the competition as participants could take a well-deserved break and enjoy some refreshments and a hot cup of tea.
