Be part of European Week of Sport 22nd – 30th September
Age & Opportunity’s Go for Life Programme, in partnership with Roscommon Sports Partnership, are inviting you and your group to come along and try out a fabulous new sport called Pickleball. This is part of our “I’ve always wanted to try…” initiative, which gives groups and individuals the opportunity to try an activity for the very first time.
Pickleball is a paddle sport and is a cross between badminton, tennis and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a Wiffle Ball, over a net. The sport is played on a badminton court with rules similar to tennis but with several modifications. Pickleball was invented in mid 1960s as a children’s backyard pastime. Older adults really enjoy the sport because the low impact nature allows players t
o compete and have fun without putting too much physical wear and tear on their bodies. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn. So come and join us for a fun morning!
