Playground Markings

The Roscommon Sports Partnership in coordination with Health Promotion Services, the Health Services Executive would like to inform you about a new initiative called ‘Playground Markings’.
The Roscommon Sports Partnership has the playground stencils which are available to your school on loan free of charge. They can be used to paint many games including Hopscotch, A Maze, the Snail Game and an Activity Circuit. It is hoped that this initiative will encourage children to take part in active games and promote lifelong participation in sport and physical activity.

The school covers the cost of the paint (long-lasting traffic paint) which is approx €250 including delivery to your school for all the games. This can be got from a company called ‘Capiche’, Space 5, 10-13 Thomas Street, The Digital Hub, Dublin 8 or telephone 01 4535 805. Laying the markings is also on the onus of the school. It is suggested that help can be sought from a number of services such as senior primary school students, teachers, care takers, parents or local community groups.

If you are interested in this initiative or require further information, please contact Sarah on 090 6630853.

Successful applicants included active retirement associations, senior citizens clubs, ICA guilds, sports clubs, day centres and community centres in 26 counties.

Code of Ethics

Roscommon Sports Partnership are now in the position to offer clubs a basic 4 hour training workshop in the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children's Sport. Every volunteer who works with children (up to 18 years of age) is required to do this course. It is as much for the protection of the volunteer as for the child. The workshops are open to all sports leaders and have a duration of 4 hours, which is covered in one evening. The workshops must have at least 15 participants 18 years or over.

It can be arranged that the COE tutor travels to a club to give the course or a central venue can be organised.

This is the only Irish Sports Council recognised Code of Ethics Course. All participants receive a certificate on the night. Participants name and number are then registered with the Sports Council on their data bank for each individual sport.
