Athletic Club for Adults
Roscommon Athletic Ireland are currently attempting to establish the demand or
Interest in the establishment of an Athletic Club for Adults in the County.

The proposal would see one athletic club to cater for all adults within the county with different training areas within the county for the different categories or members and different events.
Events such as running , can be broken up into competitive and non competitive , sprint or middle or long distances are just one of the options.

Field events such as long Jump , Shot , Discus and Javeline can also be catered for as there are qualified coaches available.

It would be intended that the club would be self sufficient and that it is entirely up to the members themselves how far the members wish to progress the club.

Anyone interested in learning more or declaring an interest should email their interest
Comments or proposals to the county secretary at
athleticcompetitions@eircom.net or through the regional development Officer,
Paul McNamara at paul@athleticsireland.ie

Athletic Leader Programme
The Athletic Leader Programme in CO. Roscommon is going from Strength to strength.
It all started in Boyle before the Christmas of 2006 when Boyle AC re registered with
Athletic Ireland and opened their doors to the 6-9 year olds.
The success of Boyle was an example to all ,especially those who thought that there was no demand from such an age group.
The Leader course held in Taughmaconnell generated enough interest for another club to
Start up in St.Ronan’s AC .
It started with 17 children and after Christmas when the club re opened a total of 51 children registered and are now attending every Wednesday from 7-8pm.
The club having received their specialised equipment from Athletics Ireland are really enjoying their time in the club.
The parental roster and the code of ethics which is in operation in the intermediate and senior sections of the club are now in operation with the junior club.

The next Phase of Athletic Leader in Co. Roscommon starts next Monday the 26th Feb
in the Drum Hall in the parish of Moore in South Roscommon.
It is hoped that this venture will be as successful as both Boyle and Taughmaconnell and hopefully extend further into other areas.
The more people willing to get involved in this age group, for one hour a week, the easier it will be for the existing coaches.

Anyone interested in starting an Athletic Leader programme should contact the County Secretary or the Regional Development Officer, Paul McNamara, at
Paul@athleticsireland.ie
